Man with a concept

This film has been my favorite to watch so far. In Man with a Movie Camera, there is no real story, no real plot, and no real actors. It was really interesting to try to follow this movie, as it is an hour long. There is ups and downs and suspense, as every story should have. I think that there is a couple people who could be considered characters. The people who were on the screen for more then one scene, no matter how long the scenes were, could definitely be considered characters. I think that the main character is the man with the camera. He plays the biggest part in the film. Vertov uses montage scenes just like Eisenstien does. However, Vertov's montages go much faster in pace and the are used to show juxtaposition.
The music was very interesting. I think that the way the one would describe it would be that it was industrial. It did change to fit the scenes and made the audience feel what Vertov was trying to convey.
It was very interesting the way this movie started. I thought that the show opening up with a camera and then showing a theater as if they were watching the movie with us. I really liked how there were really interesting shots from crazy angles. I also liked that the film ended with an eye in a camera that is closing.
My favorite part about this movie is all of the comparisons that Vertov made. The montage of the girl waking up while the streets begin to fill up, or the girl opening and closing her eyes while the window shutters do the same thing. The juxtaposition of the wedding and divorce agreements was very interesting, and the music also changed with the scenes. The camera and eye moving at the same time. The comparisons of men and women working in the salons versus machinery work. The people working versus the lady who is working on the film.
This film has a lot of very interesting content and ideas. I really enjoyed how there were many different types of shots and pictures.

  1. Honestly, I just loved everything about this movie, and like you it's probably my favorite so far in this class. I also just really like the contrasting scenes and nonsensical structure, it was a good time.
